OVERVIEW:
Jim Fenton is an executive coach, leadership development consultant, and talent management executive. He currently leads an entrepreneurial consulting practice.

With more than thirty-five years of experience in premier professional services firms, Jim brings significant perspective to his consulting engagements and writing. Prior to launching his independent practice, Jim was a partner with McKinsey & Company, was Managing Partner and Director of Global Resources for AT&T Solutions, and served as

 

Chief Administrative Officer with CEB (subsequently acquired by Gartner, Inc.).

Jim holds an MBA from The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania and a BS, Mathematics, from Albright College.

Complementing his business career, Jim is a freelance writer and creative. He and his wife, Beth, have three adult children and split their time between Lancaster, PA and Asbury Park, NJ.

With more than thirty years of experience in top flight professional services firms, Jim brings a wealth of perspective and expertise to his consulting engagements – whether they are one-on-one coaching efforts, broader learning initiatives across an organization, or talent leadership consulting engagements in the full range of human capital functions:  recruiting, professional development, evaluation/performance management, training, and the like.  His clientele includes global service firms and boutique consulting groups, financial services organizations, other business-to-business service providers, and nonprofits.

 

Prior to launching his independent practice, Jim worked in three organizations – each based in the mid-Atlantic region, but with broader reach and clientele.  He was a partner with McKinsey & Company, based in New York.  He led all professional development programs and initiatives for the six-office complex: New York, Boston, Stamford, Washington, New Jersey, and Caracas.  He was responsible for assignment staffing of all consultants, training program development and implementation, as well as performance management processes and approach. 

 

As Managing Partner and Director of Global Resources for AT&T Solutions (based in Washington, DC), Jim helped the start-up organization move from no staff to more than 400 staff in the course of two years.  He oversaw development and implementation of all people processes and development initiatives for a 24-office global enterprise, covering both professional and administrative staff.

 

In his last full-time role, Jim served as Chief Administrative Officer with CEB (known then as the Corporate Executive Board and recently acquired by Gartner, Inc.) in Washington, DC.  He led all human resource functions, the short-answer research community, the firm’s libraries, and the organization’s IT group.  With a focus on human capital, he helped the organization navigate the post IPO transition from private to public.

 

Jim holds an MBA with distinction from The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania and a BS, Mathematics ~ summa cum laude, from Albright College.  Married with three adult children, Jim grew up in the Philadelphia suburbs.  He enjoys participating in church and community, his family’s activities, travel, creative writing, entertaining, playing piano and staying fit.
